What makes you believe they are obsolete? Text funnels are still an  
essential function in Panorama, and they work in Pan 3.1.5 as well as  
in Pan 5.5.

You have access to the recent version of Panorama. So have a look at  
the Help and Documentation wizard: Chapter 23 of the PDF Manual  
"Panorama Essentials" contains "Taking Strings Apart (Text Funnels) "  
on Page 533.
