  Can but I doubt that you want to go that way. After working with 
Enterprise for a couple of years I've managed to successfully convert 
my entire InView (http://hsltd.us/inview/inview.html) and StockView 
(http://hsltd.us/stockview/stockview.html ) file set to run in shared 
mode very cleanly. It includes 12 sizeable files trading data, 
looking things up and occasionally performing operations without 
telling the server.

For those I use ServerUpdate "off" to do offline FormulaFills and 
such, then ServerUpdate "on" to restore the communication.

There are some differences in using shred files. It would be worth 
your while, and maybe reduced blood pressure, to look through Chapter 
3 of the Enterprise documentation.
