Panorama Server Speed Issues

We're having some issue with the speed of Panorama Server on a couple of
our servers as they are bogging down when Panorama is processing a hit.
The CPU load goes up to 97% for Panorama and functions often take a
number of seconds. Client data is sometimes part of the problem and the
various Panorama apps have been rewritten over years to improve on speed
and will continue to be improved, but I don't have control over the
writing of most of them. It seems though that Panorama itself is an
issue as most other server functions are faster and run as headless
daemons thus not using unnecessary resources.

A major aspect of the problem may be related to the way that Panorama
still is involved with using the graphics processor (not at all
necessary or desired for server functions) as can be seen in the
changing menus when different files open. Except when administering the
software there is no need for any server software to be doing any screen
drawing at all.

If Panorama can be run invisibly and get rid of this burden it would be
helpful. Secret windows helps to some extent but it would be nice to be
able to make the whole application a hidden process all the time. So, if
there is a way please let me know.

Any tips on speeding up are welcome, as we are even having this issue on
a dual processor Intel Xeon with 4GB RAM and big SATA drives.

Jeff Cook
