Sharing Troubles

I have a customer with good, up to date computers and OS that has had 
a couple of errors I haven't seen from others.

Last week we had to Force Synch their files because they were getting 
a message that said the database doesn't match the one on the server. 
Force Synch fixed it.

Today they're getting a message that the file cannot be saved 
because 19 records are missing.

How do we resolve that and why would records be missing?

What would be causing this and how do we prevent it?
